about

TOSMI [Training in Open Source Multimedia Tools] is organized by InterSpace Association, Sofia and is designed to introduce media professionals to the benefits and possibilities of an open source pipeline in audio-video production and distribution. The first TOSMI training was realized in 2007 and since then has been organized annually, the edition in 2009 being the third on. The training is supported by MEDIA, the European Union’s funding programme for the audiovisual industry.

In 2009, there are three separate 6-day long courses. The first course focuses on developing media content for web and online distribution, the second offers a general introduction to 3D modeling and animation with Blender and the third emphasises on using Blender as a multifunctional tool for game content creation.

Why

Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) has many advantages for professionals in the audio-visual industries. Users are able to take advantage of active support communities and benefit from the rapid pace of development. The use of such software also saves money otherwise spent on software licenses and technical support.

After finishing the course program, participants will have greater freedom in their own productions, because of the advantages already mentioned.
